Dr. Pinto’s Story

I have to admit that when I was a child I would have never believed that I would one day become a doctor. After six years in the Marines my tour was over. Soon after I left the Marines, my health began to deteriorate. I was considered a "universal reactor", which is someone who would lose consciousness if I were simply in the same room as someone wearing perfume or being at the gas station. I became very ill with symptoms that include chronic fatigue, severe food allergies, a headache that lasted four years, and I lost fifty pounds. My condition turned into a serious blood disorder. I was going to different doctors each day that could not properly diagnose me or help my condition get better.

From twenty-three different medical doctors, I received twenty-three different diagnoses. I became obsessed with finding out how to regain my health and quality of life. After reaching a dead end, I began seeking out alternative approaches and alternative practitioners. A series of alternative practitioners helped me regain about seventy percent of my health. I was not completely better until I learned of Dr. Roy Sweat, an Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractor in Atlanta. My first visit changed my life and the day after my first adjustment, I was significantly better. At that point I decided I wanted to become a chiropractor to help other people get well as Dr. Sweat helped me.

I have integrated many of the alternative modalities that helped me get well and combined them with the Atlas Orthogonal chiropractic, and other chiropractic techniques that I learned from Dr. Sweat. This quest to find the answer to my illness is the drive and discipline that inspired me to go back to school. I promised myself, my family and God that if I regained my health, I would become the best healthcare practitioner I could be to help other people get well. I entered Chiropractic school to pursue a passion to help people get well with an approach towards healing that requires no drugs or surgery.

I returned to school and became a chiropractor, certified clinical nutritionist and a certified acupuncturist. I am currently continuing my education to become a Natural Medical Doctor. I studied and interned with Dr. Sweat for three years before I opened my own practice in Centreville, Virginia in 1996. My chiropractic practice has proudly been recognized both regionally and nationally for integrating a variety of non-toxic and non-invasive therapies -- without drugs or surgery. Our unique practice is on the forefront of progressive new chiropractic technology and innovative gentle force techniques. We specialize in the Atlas Orthogonal technique that I learned from Dr. Sweat. In Greek mythology, Atlas held up the world with his great strength. In chiropractic terms, the Atlas is the first vertebra at the top of the spine on which the back and headrests. The Atlas is the most moveable joint in the spine, so it is also the easiest to misalign. Misalignment is the cause of serious spinal degeneration and if the condition persists, it can affect the organs, muscles and tissues.

On the day before Christmas, I found Centreville on the map after two weeks of searching for a place to start my practice. Centreville seemed like the perfect location because it was expanding and there was a need for integrative alternative healthcare, which was not available to Centreville residents. I have been practicing in Centreville for the past ten years and in that time I have been blessed with the opportunity help many people get well. In fact, many of my patients are other healthcare practitioners including MD’s, DO’s, neurologists, dentists, nurses and other chiropractors. These are the healthcare practitioners that care for us. If it is good enough for them, shouldn’t it be good enough for you. Under my care these healthcare practitioners have come to understand the alternative approach towards healing. I often ask them why they do not give this same care to their own patients and I frequently get responses that it is too hard for them to change their old ways.

I help patients release emotional stress with a technique called Neural Emotional Technique, which releases emotions out of the organs and meridians. Meridians are pathways of energy and when they get blocked, pain or dysfunction occurs. When this happens, pain goes away immediately. Emotional stress plays a key factor in your health. Whether a tiger is chasing you or you can’t pay your bills, your body does not know the difference. Emotional stress can manifest as physical pains and aches all over the body and must be dealt with at the emotional level. I believe that one must use an emotional therapy to solve an emotional problem, rather than a physical therapy to solve an emotional problem.

The great ancient Greek physician Hippocrates said that disease starts in the spine and he was right. As a chiropractic doctor, I help people alleviate pain by fixing vertebral misalignments that can constrict proper nervous system flow to the brain, organs and limbs. This causes one shoulder to be higher than the other or one leg to be shorter, and pain anywhere. We take specialized X-rays of the upper cervical area in order to pinpoint the misalignment to precisely correct the problem and obtain proper posture. I have had the opportunity to help thousands of patients achieve wellness without drugs or surgery. I’ve learned that pain is a symptom and not the cause of the problem. There are three reasons for pain: trauma, toxins and negative stress. My philosophy is that I do not treat symptoms or conditions. Rather, I help restore balance to the body. I address patients’ structural, emotional, chemical and energetic components. My mission is to help my patients maintain optimal health and wellness without the use of drugs or surgery.

We offer various free lectures on various wellness topics. I’m engulfed in my work because I love helping people get better. We all have to die, but while we’re here, we should have the best quality of life possible. We should burn brightly and not flicker; how you treat yourself now is how you will end up later, so I recommend that you treat your body like a temple and give it the loving care that it deserves. As soon as you enter the office our warm and friendly staff will greet you and make you feel like a member of our family.
